Midlands Bar Association to host upcoming CLE event


On October 2nd, the Midlands Bar Association will host the CLE event “What Should You Do If You Think Your Client Is Lying? Practical and Professional Responsibility Perspectives.”  Larry Teply, a professor at Creighton Law School, will be presenting.  The event will take place from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Creighton Law School in Room 124, and the cost of registration is $50.  It has been approved for two hours of ethics/professional responsibility CLE credit in Nebraska and Iowa.  To register, please contact Tammy King at tammyking@creighton.edu.

The Indian Child Welfare Act in Nebraska


The federal Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and Nebraska’s state statutory counterpart, the Nebraska Indian Child Welfare Act (NICWA), provide distinct requirements in child custody proceedings involving Native American children. This presentation, which took place on August 27th, provided an overview of the major provisions of ICWA and NICWA and recent Nebraska case law interpreting the Acts. The presentation focused on ways attorneys can help to improve compliance with ICWA in Nebraska and outcomes for Native American children and families.  The event was worth one CLE credit. 

Legal Interpreters -- A User's Guide

This presentation focused on procedures, protocols and ethics of interpreting in the justice system.  Laura Garcia-Hein, a federal and state court certified Spanish interpreter, was the keynote speaker at the event, which was held on August 19th.  The event was worth two CLE credits.
